A Comparative Study on the Evaluation and Certification System of Rehabilitation Medical Institutions in South-Korea and Japan

Abstract
This research compared Accreditation system for rehabilitation hospital in Korea and Japan through metanalysis in comparative and descriptive study. As the result, Accreditation to Korea rehabilitation hospital did not include positions such as physical therapist or occupational therapist as part of their surveyor. The visit survey date was two days longer than that of Japan, and the number of evaluation items was higher than that of Japan. Consulting available for certification in Korea lacked many subdivisions compared to Japan, while having higher average cost. As for the effectiveness of the evaluation, both countries lacked reasonable method to reveal the evaluation result to satisfy the patient¡¯s right to know. Lastly, both countries displayed low utilization of the certification as obtainment of certification did not influence the medical fee of patient rehabilitation hospital received. As Korea is approaching an era of super-aged society, the demand for rehabilitation hospital will continue to increase. Effort to realistically improve the certification system to motivate the need for certification seems necessary.
